Anthropic’s latest update to Claude integrates the AI with Excel and PowerPoint, enabling shared context that could shake up enterprise productivity tools and rival Microsoft's own Copilot Cowork.
Anthropic has rolled out significant updates to its AI model, Claude, adding new capabilities that integrate seamlessly with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. This move aims to enhance enterprise productivity by allowing shared context across these applications, a feature that could challenge Microsoft’s recently launched Copilot Cowork, which also leverages Claude's capabilities.
The updated add-ins are now available for both Mac and Windows users on paid Claude plans as of March 11. This release introduces several key features:
Shared Context Across Office Apps: Paid Claude users can now enjoy a beta experience where Claude for Excel and Claude for PowerPoint share the full context of a user’s conversation with the AI model between the two applications. This eliminates the need for manual copying and pasting, allowing Claude to carry information, instructions, and task history seamlessly.
Cloud Deployment Options: Enterprises have more flexibility in deploying these tools. Claude can be accessed either through a Claude account or via an existing LLM gateway that routes requests to Claude models on platforms like Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry. This setup is particularly beneficial for organizations with established cloud and compliance frameworks.
The shared context feature significantly streamlines workflows, especially in complex tasks like financial analysis. Here’s how it works:
This builds on Anthropic’s previous release of a Claude plugin for Excel, which was introduced in October 2025. The new feature enhances the model's utility by extending its capabilities across multiple Office applications.

A central aspect of this update is the introduction of Skills, which allows teams to build and save repeatable workflows directly within the Excel and PowerPoint sidebars. Key benefits include:
Standardized Processes: Users can save standardized processes, such as specific variance analyses or approved slide templates, as one-click actions available to the entire organization. This eliminates the need for re-uploading references or re-prompting instructions each time.
Recurring Tasks: Workflows for recurring financial analysis, preparing presentations in a preferred house style, and running common review steps can be saved and reused efficiently. For example:
These updates are particularly valuable for enterprise users who rely heavily on Microsoft Office applications. By integrating Claude's AI capabilities more deeply, Anthropic aims to provide a more cohesive and efficient user experience. The ability to share context across applications and save repeatable workflows can significantly reduce manual effort and improve productivity.
Anthropic’s latest enhancements to Claude demonstrate the company's commitment to providing robust AI solutions for enterprise users. By offering shared context across Excel and PowerPoint, along with flexible deployment options and repeatable workflows, Claude is well-positioned to compete in the growing market of AI-powered productivity tools.
