EMR company Canvas Medical introduces Canvas Studio, a no-code interface that enables clinicians to build custom workflows using AI agents.
Canvas Medical, an electronic medical record (EMR) company, has unveiled Canvas Studio, a no-code platform designed to empower healthcare professionals to customize and extend their EMR workflows. CEO Adam Farren told Fierce Healthcare that the tool aims to democratize workflow customization by replacing software developers with AI agents, allowing end users like clinicians and administrative staff to directly tailor and enhance their EMR experiences.
Canvas Studio introduces several key capabilities that elevate the company's existing offerings:
Canvas Studio is powered by Claude Code and the Canvas software development kit (SDK), providing a robust foundation for these advanced features.
Farren emphasized that Canvas Studio takes the company's capabilities to the next level by enabling end users to create AI-driven care pathways. This is particularly beneficial for providers in 15 outpatient specialties, serving thousands of users and hundreds of thousands of patients monthly.
One notable application is in the prescribing of GLP-1 drugs, where Canvas Studio can automate intake processes for new and existing patients. "With context and awareness of whether it's a new patient or an existing patient," Farren explained, "the agent will automatically decide whether to give them the new patient questionnaire or the existing patient questionnaire."

Canvas Studio is built on a modern EMR architecture designed for both primary care and specialty care providers. The platform supports bidirectional FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) APIs, ensuring seamless data exchange with other healthcare systems. Last year, Canvas rolled out Hyperscribe, an open-source AI-enabled clinical copilot that further enhances the company's offerings.
The no-code interface leverages advanced natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to interpret user commands and generate workflows. The agentic AI component is particularly noteworthy, as it can autonomously manage complex tasks based on real-time data and user feedback. This not only reduces the burden on healthcare professionals but also improves the accuracy and efficiency of clinical workflows.
As Canvas Studio gains traction, several areas are worth monitoring:
With Canvas Studio, Canvas Medical is positioning itself as a leader in AI-driven healthcare solutions, offering a powerful tool that could significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical workflows.
