Figma's new MCP server beta bridges the gap between design and development by feeding AI models precise Figma data, streamlining code generation and reducing errors in the transition from design to code.
Figma has just announced the beta release of its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, a significant step in bringing design context directly into developer workflows. This new feature aims to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of AI-driven code generation by providing LLMs with detailed design information from Figma.
Until now, integrating design context into AI tools has been a manual and often imprecise process. Developers typically had to feed images or API responses to chatbots, which could lead to misinterpretations and inaccuracies. The introduction of MCP changes this by establishing a standardized protocol for applications to provide rich, structured data to LLMs.
This integration has several practical benefits for developers and designers:
The Figma MCP server is designed to be flexible and extensible:

In its beta phase, the MCP server includes:
Figma is committed to expanding the capabilities of the MCP server:
User feedback is crucial for the continued improvement of the MCP server. Figma encourages users to provide feedback through a dedicated form, which will help shape future updates and features.

Kai built ML infrastructure at a Bay Area startup before developing an obsession with transformer architectures and inference optimisation that eventually pulled him out of product work entirely. A stint at a compute research lab sharpened his instinct for what actually matters in a model release versus what is marketing. He writes from the inside — from the perspective of someone who has debugged the systems he is describing at three in the morning. He is allergic to hype and instinctively drawn to the unglamorous plumbing questions that everyone else skips over.
