Apple’s surprise move to integrate Google’s Gemini AI into Siri signals a bold departure from its closed ecosystem approach, set to debut with new smart home gadgets this March.
In a significant shift, Apple is set to roll out a revamped version of Siri in March 2026, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The update will coincide with the launch of new smart home devices, including an updated Apple TV and HomePod mini. Notably, this new iteration of Siri will integrate Google's Gemini AI model, marking a strategic move to enhance Siri’s capabilities.
Google Gemini Integration: Siri will leverage a custom Gemini model running on Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers. This integration aims to improve Siri's performance in tasks like web search and natural language understanding.
Custom Model Development: Apple is paying Google to develop a custom Gemini model specifically for Siri.
User Interface and Experience: Despite the backend integration, users will still interact with Siri through a familiar Apple interface.
New Smart Home Display: This device, which will come with speaker-base and wall-mount options, is designed to showcase the new Siri features.
Apple TV and HomePod Mini Updates: These devices are set to launch soon and will support the new Siri features.

User Adoption: Gurman warns that there’s no guarantee users will fully embrace the new Siri, especially given its history of performance issues.
Regulatory Issues in China: Apple is still facing regulatory challenges with launching Apple Intelligence in China, despite partnerships with local companies.
Apple will preview major updates to Siri and its broader AI strategy at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. These updates are expected to include enhancements to iOS 27, macOS 27, and watchOS 27.
The upcoming update to Siri represents a significant step in Apple’s AI strategy. By integrating Google’s Gemini model, Apple aims to address long-standing performance issues while maintaining its commitment to user privacy and a seamless user experience. The success of this integration will be crucial for re-establishing Siri as a leading voice assistant.
