As Omada Health transitions leadership, the company looks to expand its impact on chronic disease management with a focus on GLP-1 strategies and broader healthcare integration.
Omada Health, a leading virtual care provider known for its innovative approach to managing chronic conditions, announced a significant leadership change. Effective January 1, Wei-Li Shao, currently serving as president, will step into the role of CEO. This transition marks a new chapter in Omada's mission to address the growing burden of chronic diseases through technology and personalized care.
Current CEO and founder Sean Duffy will transition to the role of executive chair, where he will continue to support Shao and the board on long-term strategic initiatives. Duffy has been at the helm since founding the company 15 years ago, during which time Omada has made significant strides in bridging the healthcare gap for millions of Americans.
Shao joined Omada Health in 2019 as chief commercial officer and was promoted to president in 2021. During his tenure, he has played a crucial role in shaping the company's growth and expanding its offerings from a single-condition program to a multi-condition care platform. His leadership has been instrumental in driving strong financial performance and operational efficiency.
"He built the long-range plan that guides how Omada Health runs today and has been a close strategic partner to Sean throughout the company's growth," management said in a press release. Shao's extensive experience in the healthcare industry, particularly in cardiometabolic and diabetes markets, aligns well with Omada's business focus.
Prior to joining Omada, Shao spent 18 years at Eli Lilly and Company, where he held various senior leadership roles across global healthcare and biopharmaceutical businesses. This background positions him uniquely to lead Omada into its next phase of growth and impact.
"Fifteen years ago, Sean designed an innovative solution to help Americans bridge the healthcare gap. Together, we've shown the model works, yet I believe our biggest impact is still ahead," Shao said in a statement. "Our results serve as a foundation to raise our ambitions. Now is the time to scale, push harder on our mission, and bend the curve of chronic disease."

One of the key strategies under Shao's leadership will be the expansion of Omada Health's focus on GLP-1 (Glucagon-like Peptide-1) therapies. GLP-1 is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels and has shown promise in managing diabetes and obesity. By integrating these therapies into their care platform, Omada aims to provide more comprehensive and effective treatment options for patients.
The company's recent financial performance underscores its potential. In the first quarter of 2026, Omada reported a 42% revenue jump, driven by strong demand for its integrated approach to managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and musculoskeletal disorders. This growth is not only financially significant but also highlights the growing need for innovative healthcare solutions in an era where chronic diseases are becoming increasingly prevalent.
The leadership change at Omada Health reflects a broader trend in the healthcare industry: the shift towards more integrated and technology-driven care models. As healthcare costs continue to rise, providers and payers are increasingly looking for cost-effective solutions that can improve patient outcomes and reduce the burden on the system.
A recent survey conducted by PayZen in partnership with HFMA (Healthcare Financial Management Association) highlights this trend. The survey, which included insights from 205 revenue cycle leaders at leading health systems, found that providers are increasingly focusing on performance metrics that align with value-based care models. AI and digital health solutions like those offered by Omada are seen as crucial tools in achieving these goals.
For patients, the expansion of services and integration of advanced therapies like GLP-1 could mean better access to personalized care and improved management of chronic conditions. As Shao takes the helm at Omada Health, his vision for scaling the company's impact and pushing harder on its mission has the potential to make a significant difference in the lives of millions of Americans.
In an industry where innovation is key, the leadership transition at Omada Health signals a commitment to staying ahead of the curve and addressing some of the most pressing healthcare challenges of our time.
