Medical VR company XR Health bolsters its digital health offerings with the acquisition of FDA-cleared fibromyalgia treatment developer Swing Therapeutics, signaling a strategic shift towards comprehensive digital therapeutics.
XR Health, a leading medical virtual reality (VR) company, has announced the acquisition of Swing Therapeutics, a developer of an FDA-cleared digital treatment for fibromyalgia. This marks XR Health's sixth acquisition in the past two years and underscores its ambition to become a primary provider of digital treatments across various diseases.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but XR Health CEO Eran Orr emphasized that this is just one step in a broader strategy. "This won’t be the last acquisition for us," Orr stated, indicating the company's continued commitment to expanding its portfolio.
Swing Therapeutics' addition to XR Health's platform aligns with the company’s goal of offering comprehensive digital solutions for chronic conditions. With over a million user sessions delivered in 2025, XR Health has established itself as a significant player in the medical VR market. The platform currently hosts dozens of apps, including meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) experiences designed to address mental health issues, pain management, and other symptoms.
The acquisition of Swing Therapeutics not only enhances XR Health's existing offerings but also positions it to tap into the growing market for digital therapeutics. According to a report by Grand View Research, the global digital therapeutics market is expected to reach $9.4 billion by 2027, driven by increasing adoption of technology in healthcare and rising prevalence of chronic diseases.

For investors, XR Health's strategic acquisitions present both opportunities and risks. The company’s rapid expansion into new therapeutic areas could lead to significant growth, particularly as digital health solutions gain more regulatory approvals and reimbursement pathways. However, the competitive landscape is also becoming increasingly crowded, with other tech giants and startups vying for market share.
The success of XR Health's strategy will depend on its ability to integrate acquired technologies seamlessly and scale its operations efficiently. Maintaining a strong focus on user engagement and clinical outcomes will be crucial in building trust among healthcare providers and patients.
Despite these challenges, the potential rewards are substantial. By positioning itself as a one-stop shop for digital treatments, XR Health could capture a significant portion of the growing market, driving long-term value for its stakeholders.
