Amazon Q harnesses generative AI to revolutionize software development by generating precise code, testing it thoroughly, and assisting with complex business planning-boosting productivity across industries.
AWS has announced the general availability of Amazon Q, a powerful generative AI-powered assistant designed to enhance software development and leverage internal business data. This tool is now available for businesses and developers across various industries, promising significant productivity gains.
Amazon Q introduces several key features that set it apart from other generative AI tools:
For developers, Amazon Q means more time spent on coding and less on maintenance. For business users, it provides quick answers to a wide range of questions, from company policies to product information, helping accelerate decision-making.
Today’s announcement includes the general availability of Amazon Q Developer and Amazon Q Business, along with a new capability called Amazon Q Apps (in preview).

Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of Artificial Intelligence and Data at AWS, stated, “Amazon Q is the most capable generative AI-powered assistant available today with industry-leading accuracy, advanced agents capabilities, and best-in-class security that helps developers become more productive and helps business users to accelerate decision making.”
Since its announcement at re:Invent 2023, Amazon Q has shown promising results. Early adopters have reported productivity gains of over 80%, and AWS plans to introduce new features in the future to further enhance these benefits.
AWS developer Banjo Obayomi shared his experience using Amazon Q. He noted that the tool helps him get answers quickly, solve problems efficiently, and assist other engineers in learning and building on Amazon Web Services.
Amazon Q represents a significant step forward in generative AI for both developers and business users. By automating routine tasks, providing accurate code generation, and integrating with internal data sources, it promises to revolutionize the way work is done across various industries.

Kai built ML infrastructure at a Bay Area startup before developing an obsession with transformer architectures and inference optimisation that eventually pulled him out of product work entirely. A stint at a compute research lab sharpened his instinct for what actually matters in a model release versus what is marketing. He is allergic to hype and instinctively drawn to the unglamorous plumbing questions that everyone else skips over.
