BYD, already a titan in electric vehicles, is venturing into humanoid robotics with a global talent hunt, signaling its ambition to lead in cutting-edge technologies beyond the automotive industry.
BYD, China’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is expanding its horizons into humanoid robotics. As the company continues to break records in EV sales, it has announced a new global recruitment program to attract top talent and accelerate its development in this promising field.
In November, BYD set another record by selling 506,804 new-energy vehicles (NEVs), including both electric and plug-in hybrid models. This marks the second consecutive month that the company has surpassed the 500K mark. Despite this success in the automotive sector, BYD is looking to diversify its technological portfolio.
According to a recent social media post, BYD plans to enter the world of humanoid robotics. The company has launched a recruitment program aimed at attracting master’s and doctoral graduates from global universities to join its Embodied Intelligence Research Team. This team was established in 2022 with the goal of developing custom robotics systems to support BYD's growing network.

Focus Areas:
The global recruitment program is part of BYD’s broader strategy to expand its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and smart technology. The company recently announced a significant investment of 100 billion yuan ($13.7 billion) to advance new intelligent technologies and accelerate EV development.

This commitment aims to ensure that BYD remains at the forefront of technological advancement, giving it a competitive edge in the global auto market. The investment will support research and development (R&D) in areas such as autonomous driving, smart manufacturing, and advanced robotics.
BYD is already leveraging robots in its manufacturing plants to improve efficiency and quality. Leading Chinese robotics company UBTECH has unveiled the Walker S1 humanoid robot, which is considered one of the most advanced trained humanoid robots in auto manufacturing. The Walker S1 has already received over 500 pre-orders, highlighting the growing demand for advanced robotics solutions.
Technological Diversification: BYD's move into humanoid robotics represents a significant step towards diversifying its technological capabilities. For practitioners in the field, this could mean new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Global Talent Pool: The recruitment program is designed to attract top talent from around the world, which can lead to a more diverse and innovative R&D environment.
Industry Impact: As one of the leading EV manufacturers, BYD's entry into humanoid robotics could influence the industry by setting new standards for integration and application of advanced technologies.
BYD’s expansion into humanoid robotics is a strategic move that aligns with its broader vision of technological leadership. By attracting top talent and making significant investments in AI and smart technology, BYD aims to maintain its competitive edge and drive innovation in both the automotive and robotics industries.
