Erlanger Health System Joins Prisma Health in $2 Billion Partnership to Enhance Patient Care

Erlanger Health System, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has announced its intention to merge with Prisma Health, a leading nonprofit health system. This partnership, valued at $2 billion, aims to create a 27-hospital network that will significantly boost access to specialty care, fund long-term capital projects, and secure critical healthcare services for the region.

The deal, which is still subject to various approvals, including those from Erlanger’s board of directors, an independent oversight monitor board, and state and federal regulators, represents a strategic alliance between two prominent healthcare providers. Enhancing Regional Healthcare

Erlanger Health System reported approximately $1.6 billion in operating revenue in 2025, with around 1,000 beds spread across seven hospitals, including its children’s hospital. The flagship Erlanger Baroness Hospital is a teaching facility affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and houses the region's only Level 1 trauma center. It also provides tertiary care services for a vast area covering four states.

The partnership with Prisma Health will bring substantial resources to Erlanger, enabling it to expand its capabilities and improve patient outcomes. This robust standing makes Erlanger an attractive partner for Prisma Health.
