In a strategic move, Switchboard Health has acquired Livara Health, integrating its musculoskeletal (MSK) care program into its platform to streamline referral management and improve patient outcomes.
Switchboard Health, an artificial intelligence-driven specialty care navigation platform, announced the acquisition of Livara Health, a virtual orthopedics and MSK management provider. This strategic move aims to embed Livara’s comprehensive MSK program into Switchboard’s automation platform for referral management and care navigation. The integration will enable primary care providers and health plans to more efficiently enroll patients in evidence-based, virtual MSK care.
Derek Baird, CEO and co-founder of Switchboard Health, stated, “The Livara care model, technology, and team members start an exciting new chapter in our work to transform specialty care. Now, a primary care provider can refer qualified patients directly to our Livara MSK providers for convenient, evidence-based care.”
Livara Health’s virtual-first, value-based MSK care model combines care planning, virtual care delivery, and navigation. A 2024 review of the program found that participants reduced MSK spending by 43%, primarily due to decreased surgical utilization. Rob Cohen, CEO of Livara Health, emphasized, “Our mission is to transform patients’ and providers’ experiences with MSK care, delivering convenient, effective, virtual support. We are excited to see Switchboard integrate Livara into its workflows to scale high-value MSK care.”
The acquisition aligns with Switchboard Health’s broader strategy to expand its care delivery capabilities and enhance the efficiency of specialty care navigation. By integrating Livara’s proven MSK program, Switchboard aims to address the growing demand for cost-effective, high-quality musculoskeletal care.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. However, alongside the acquisition, Switchboard Health announced it has secured $5 million in an oversubscribed funding round. The investors include First Trust Capital Partners, LLC, Route 66 Ventures, A1 Health Ventures, Allumia Ventures, and Martin Ventures.
Baird noted, “We are grateful to our new and current investors for supporting our expansion into care delivery and the next phase of growth. The number of patients coming through Switchboard has increased by 500% over the past nine months, and we see even faster growth ahead.”

The funding will be used to further develop and scale Switchboard’s platform, enhancing its capabilities in AI-driven care navigation and expanding its reach into new markets.
The acquisition of Livara Health by Switchboard underscores the growing importance of technology-driven solutions in managing musculoskeletal conditions. With a 43% reduction in MSK spending through reduced surgical utilization, Livara’s model offers significant cost savings for healthcare providers and payers.
The integration of Livara’s virtual care capabilities into Switchboard’s platform positions the company to capture a larger share of the growing digital health market. According to Fierce Healthcare's Fundraising Tracker '26, the health tech and digital health industries continue to attract substantial venture capital investments, with companies like Arintra securing $25 million and Happy Health raising $75 million.
The FDA’s expected guidance on policies regarding generative AI devices further highlights the regulatory environment's impact on the sector. As the healthcare industry increasingly adopts AI-driven solutions, clear regulatory frameworks will be crucial for ensuring patient safety and fostering innovation.
For investors, Switchboard Health’s acquisition of Livara represents a strategic move into a high-growth segment of the digital health market. The company’s ability to leverage AI and virtual care technologies to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs positions it well for future success.
